Q&A

Frequently Asked Questions

What is semi-permanent makeup (SPMU)?

SPMU also called Permanent Cosmetics or Micro Pigmentation, is the process of implanting non-toxic and non-allergenic cosmetic pigments just below the surface of the skin into the dermal layer. Permanent Makeup can restore the look when we experience hair loss (eyebrows, eyelashes), but can also improve our appearance by adding density and shaping to our lips, brows, or eyes in a most flattering way to expose our natural beauty. It gives an enormous sense of freedom and boosts our self- confidence.

What is different from traditional tattooing?

The basic principles of traditional tattooing and cosmetic tattooing have some similarities and are related. However, tattooing the face is different to body tattooing. In Permanent Makeup a lot of tertiary colours are used to complement every skin tone. It’s a pigment, not ink, so it will fade with time, allowing the design to be adjusted. As we age, the same shape suitable in our twenties, thirties, will not be looking good in our fifties or sixties. SPMU equipment is manufactured to the highest medical standards, and it is not as aggressive. It doesn't vibrate like a tattoo gun and it's not as loud.

What’s the difference to microblading?

Microblading is more traumatic to the skin, and it will result in micro scars making the skin more difficult to work on in the future. It's not as effective for every skin type and it is more painful. Microblading is very difficult to remove by laser. It is usually cheaper due to the low cost of the equipment and smaller investment in training courses that usually are not as comprehensive as for Permanent Makeup.

How long does semi-permanent makeup last?

Longevity of semi-permanent makeup depends on a few factors: the colours that have been used, health conditions, lifestyle (sunbeds, wearing SPF, regular exfoliating treatments) and the condition of the skin. Generally, eyebrow makeup can last between 2-4 years, lips 2-5 years and eyeliner 2-7 years. However, your results will look best when refreshed every 12-18 months.

Is it safe?

Yes, it's totally safe. The highest standards of hygiene are met at Allure Visage. Only state of the art digital technology systems are used. The pigments are non-allergenic, dermatologically safe and meet strict European medical standards.

Does it hurt?

Cosmetic tattooing is performed very gently, and it certainly doesn’t hurt. Skin may become sensitive / sore towards the end of the treatment, and this is very normal, but most clients feel minimal pain. To ensure optimum comfort is experienced, local anaesthetic (numbing gel) can be incorporated into the treatment. Anna has completed extensive research into the best numbing gels and has found one that lasts longer than the 5-10 minutes you may find used elsewhere. It has been known for clients to fall asleep during their treatment and those who have been elsewhere always comment how surprised they are about this not hurting at all, compared to their previous experience!

How long will it take?

The initial procedure of tattooing usually takes about 1.5 hours, but in total, the appointment may take between 2.5 to 3 hours including the consultation. You will return approximately 5 weeks later for your touch up appointment, which will last 1 hour. A colour boost appointment will be around 2 hours in length.

What will it look like after the procedure?

Immediately after your treatment, the area may appear a little bit darker and thicker. It will start changing after 4-7 days but the true colour will not be visible until the area has completely healed. That may take up to 21 days. Once the healing process is complete, you will be able to fully appreciate the colour and softness of the results. It is also possible that the colour will heal too light, uneven, or patchy in some areas which can easily be corrected during your touch up session.

Can I have a procedure while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No, you should wait at least 2 months after delivery or after you stop breastfeeding.

Can I wax my brows before treatment?

If you are planning to wax your brows, it should be done at least three days prior to your appointment and electrolysis no less than five days prior.

Can I tan before treatment?

DO NOT tan or use sunbeds at least one week prior to your appointment. If your skin is burnt or sun damaged in any way at your appointment, I may have to cancel your appointment.

What is the aftercare?

The key to post-procedure care is to keep the wounded tissue clean, undisturbed, and protected with the provided antibacterial gel.

The treated area won't be able to get wet for up to 7-10 days - so plan your appointments accordingly around holidays, the gym, swimming, spa visits etc.

Full after care advice is provided to all clients that book with Allure Visage.
